How to trap Mosquitoes?? 🦟 🪤

Daily writing prompt
How have you adapted to the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic?

Alright!!

It’s summer time and those damn mosquitoes be buzzing in your ear specially at night. I can’t use chemical stuff so tried something more natural … Well almost, better than inhalling those harmful coils.

We all know the drill: buzzing, biting, and the constant fear of those nasty diseases they carry.

But what if I told you there’s a super simple, DIY way to fight back, using stuff you probably already have in your kitchen?

Yep, we’re building a homemade mosquito trap, and it’s surprisingly effective!

Say Goodbye to Buzzing Bullies with This Kitchen-Crafted Contraption!Think of it as a tiny, sugary, CO2-spewing nightclub for mosquitoes – one they’ll never leave.

Here’s how to whip up this mosquito- and God it works . I know cause I made it .This homemade mosquito trap is a safe and effective way to attract and trap mosquitoes, reducing their numbers in your home.

What You’ll Need:

A trusty 2-liter plastic bottle (think soda, not fancy water!)

1 cup of water (straight from the tap is fine!)

5 tablespoons of sugar (the white stuff!)

1 tablespoon of yeast (the baker’s secret weapon!)

Some tape (any kind will do!)

Dark cardboard or fabric (think stealth mode!)

Let’s Get Trapping!

1. Sweet Science: First, grab a pot and mix that cup of water with the 5 tablespoons of sugar. Heat it up on low until the sugar dissolves completely. You’re basically making a sugary, mosquito-enticing potion!

2. Yeast’s : Once the sugar’s dissolved, let it cool a bit, then stir in that tablespoon of yeast. This is where the magic happens! The yeast starts munching on the sugar, and as a byproduct, it releases carbon dioxide. And guess what? Mosquitoes *love* CO2 – it’s like their favorite perfume.

3. Bottle : Now, take your 2-liter bottle and cut off the top, about a third of the way down. Flip that top section upside down and nestle it into the bottom half of the bottle, creating a funnel shape.

4. Pour and Seal: Carefully pour your sugary yeast mixture into the bottom of the bottle. Then, seal the edge where the two bottle pieces meet with tape, making sure it’s nice and secure.

5. Dark Delight:Wrap the bottle with your dark cardboard or fabric. Mosquitoes are drawn to dark, enclosed spaces, so this makes your trap even more irresistible.6.

Placement is Key: Find those mosquito hotspots – near windows, doors, patios, or any damp areas. Place your trap there and let it work its magic. Within an hour, you should notice a decrease in those pesky biters!

Why Does This Work?

It’s All About the CO2!The yeast and sugar combo releases carbon dioxide, mimicking our breath. Mosquitoes are drawn to it like moths to a flame. Once they fly into the bottle through the funnel, they’re trapped and can’t escape. It’s a simple, yet effective, way to reduce their population around your home.

Pro Tip:Keep your trap fresh! Replace the mixture every two weeks, or when you notice it’s stopped bubbling. That bubbling means it’s still producing CO2, and that’s what attracts the mosquitoes. So, ditch the chemical sprays and give this homemade trap a try. It’s safe, simple, and a surprisingly effective way to reclaim your backyard from those buzzing invaders! Let me know how it works for you!
