Hey everyone,
Let’s talk real stuff for a minute. My mental health has been abysmal lately. We’re talking bottomless pit of despair, Netflix on repeat for days, and the only motivation I have is to reach for that extra slice of cake (don’t judge!)
Let’s face it, mental health struggles are no joke.
Sometimes, you wake up one morning and realize things are… BAD. Really bad.
Maybe the joy has drained from your favorite hobbies that nagging anxiety feels like a permanent house guest or the exhaustion is so bone-deep it takes a gallon of coffee just to get dressed.

Been there, done that, bought the oversized fuzzy blanket.
But here’s the thing: hitting rock bottom can also be a catalyst for change. It can be the wake-up call you needed to prioritize your mental wellbeing. So, if you’re feeling like I was – utterly depleted and ready to break – here’s what I’m doing to climb out of this mental health ditch and some tips you can try too:
Taking Charge: My Mental Health Toolkit
Small Steps, Big Impact:
- Acknowledge It: The first step is admitting you’re struggling. Don’t bottle it up. Talk to a trusted friend, family member, therapist or even a mental health hotline.
- Doctor Knows Best: Schedule a checkup with your doctor. Sometimes, underlying physical issues can mimic mental health symptoms.
- Therapy Isn’t Scary: Consider therapy. It’s not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength to seek professional help.
- Baby Steps to Big Wins: Set small, achievable goals. Maybe today it’s just a 10-minute walk, or taking a relaxing bath. Celebrate those wins!
- Friend Date Yourself: Schedule time for activities you used to enjoy, even if it feels forced at first.
- Digital Detox: Take a break from social media. The curated highlight reels can make you feel worse.
- Sweat It Out: Exercise releases endorphins, natural mood boosters. Start with a walk or gentle yoga, anything that gets you moving.
- Nourish Your Body: Junk food might seem comforting, but it won’t nourish your mind or body. Eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
- Sleep is King/Queen: Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep. Develop a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Gratitude is Gold: Take a few minutes each day to list things you’re grateful for, big or small.
- Embrace the “No”: It’s okay to say “no” to requests that drain your energy. Protect your mental well-being.
- Creative Companion: Get those creative juices flowing! Write, paint, draw, sing – anything that allows you to express yourself freely.
- Celebrate Small Victories: Making your bed, taking a shower, getting dressed – these small wins matter.Acknowledge your progress, no matter how insignificant it seems.
Remember, this is a journey not a destination. There will be good days and bad days. But by taking these steps, one at a time, you can start clawing your way back to a better mental state.
You are not alone. We can weather this storm, together, one cup of coffee (or tea, if that’s your jam) at a time. We’re all in this together.
