In the dead of night, as I lay in bed,
An eerie buzzing filled my head,
A demon, aiming to shed my blood and sanity with a hunger that led
I tried to swat it with a flailing arm
But it evaded me with a cunning charm
I heard its wings..a deafening alarm,
As the beast feasted with swarm.
I kicked and thrashed to no avail,
As it sucked with its venomous tale
I felt the bite, a sharp and vile assail,
And dreaded the itch that would surely prevail.
The buzzing grew louder.. in my ears
The devil’s hunger wreaked with fear
I swore and cursed with angry tears
As it continued with relentless jeers.
And then.. with a sudden burst ,
I grabbed a book with a feeling of thirst
And smashed the it with a satisfying burst
Leaving the demon with its fate to be cursed.
And so I learned of the foes of the night,
The mosquitoes with their pestering plight
But with bravery, I won the fight,
And slept soundly until the morning light. ©Karpop Riba
