Arunachal Pradesh – My Dream

 Everyone has dreams to make his/her motherland big and democratically successful. Like others I also have a dream for my state Arunachal Pradesh and the way I would like it to be so I and the coming generations too can continue to be proud of it. I wish it to become a State that is prosperous, free of discrimination on the basis of gender or caste or tribe and economic status and sees development in true sense.

I feel proud to belong from a State that has rich cultural heritages. Also known famously as the ‘LAND OF RISING SUN’ or as the ‘ORCHID STATE’ of India with 27 districts (as of 2023) , it’s the home land of some 26 major indigenous tribes and more than 110 sub-tribes practicing distinct dance, rituals and festivals. Our State has enough potential for development of Agriculture, Pisciculture, Diary, Hydel power, textiles & handicraft, forest based products and Tourism and also recently,a mineral called Vanadium has been found in the state.The people are advance in all spheres (or atleast striving to be) and they have mingled with the main stream of Indian Culture and Traditions.

Some of the areas in which I would like to see more changes are ;

1.Women empowerment :

My biggest dream for Arunachal is to see women empowerment in all areas. I’m happy to see women are becoming independent and take up family responsibilities. However, many things need to work for women empowerment such as promoting safety & quality at workplace, due to patriarchial system, abuses against women is quite predominant in the lower strata (mostly) of the society, even well-educated individuals don’t think twice while committing such violence against women. Several jobs are still not open for women or I rather say women are thought of as best suited for low paying jobs.Many are not educated or skilled  and some take up family responsibilities at a very young age or married off.

For things to change in a better way, society should normalize things for women that men have been doing for decades. Women as a community should also normalize certain things to change the mindset of the people and society. I want women in my state to be educated, skilled, to be free from stigma and live independent lives.

2.Education :

            The Arunachal of my dream should be a place where poor people get empowerment, face no poverty, do not starve and get proper roof to live. Poor kids should get an education so they are confident in facing the world and living a successful life. In my opinion , socialism is the only remedy that can help overcome the problem.Government must take active role here and make education available to all, at grass-root level.

3. Industrialization in the State:

            Industrialization is slow because of lack of infrastructural facilities besides capital & entrepreneurship. In spite of that some small scale & medium scale industries have come up. Industry & Commerce in Arunachal are run by Arunachal people themselves (mostly). From Survey of natural resources of Arunachal it can be assumed that it has tremendous potential for industrial growth such as medicinal plants, organic food, textiles- traditional clothing etc. My dream for Arunachal is to have more manufacturing industries, MSMEs should be encouraged and generate more revenues for the State and become a self reliant State.

4.Employment opportunities :

            The Arunachal of my dream should be where every individual should get employment opportunities. People must have a decent job that offers good pay. Unfortunately, many young people with great talent are unable to find the right job due to corruptions /references/lack of updated skills/unemployment issues etc. Also due to prolonged employment there is the risk of obsolete skills in this dynamic era of IT and AI systems. Arunachal of my dream is a place where deserving candidates get  job and contribute to the growth.If the Youths who are the future of the State remain unemployed for long there is possiblity of them getting distracted to negative ways such as drug abuse, depression etc or worse…. So Government must ensure to utilize the demographic dividend for development of State in particular and the nation in general.

4.Good infrastructure & Road connectivity :

          There are many towns and villages which still lack good infrastructures & proper road connectivity . Having borders with countries such as Bhutan, China, Myanmar it has strategic importance for India’s Look East policy. The government should ensure its development and take adequate measures for completion of pending works.The infrastructure development of the State cannot practically be in sync with the ever increasing traffic density , hence following the traffic rules is the bare minimum we can do to keep our day to day commute from turning into horror.

    My dream for Arunachal is to at least have decent roads in all the Districts, Schools with basic amenities and housing for all people . A good road connectivity is also vital given its location for border issues. Also the government should provide public transportation’s which is almost non-existent in the State.

    For example; the towns in Arunachal were never planned and with increasing migration of people from villages to towns due to lack of opportunities we are now seeing a detrimental effect such as in the capital complex, its over crowded, no proper maintenance, over construction of buildings, water shortages, no effective waste management system , traffic etc.

Also I dream of a good Health infrastructure in all the districts in Arunachal Pradesh, right now we have only one Medical college i.e. TRIHMS. We could see how important health care is during Covid 19 pandemic when we had to depend on other states for test facilities etc. which should be enough for us to consider more efficient & quality based health care facilities in the State.

5. Littering issue ;

            One of the major issue that we see is the littering of public places. Waste management is biggest issue concerning governments. We need to understand that an issue as big as this needs joint efforts. Its pathetic to watch the State drowning in waste and hold the government solely responsible. You wouldn’t want to welcome your guests to a pile of trash at home, then why such indifference with the motherland? When a little consciousness can make thinks work, why make peace with trash fouling our environments? My dream for Arunachal is for it’s people to take the matter in their own hands and do their part to clean the environment and be a responsible citizen and also make Arunachal clean and sustainable for the future generations to come.

5. Unity in Diversity:

            Respecting our cultural diversity is not a choice but a must. Arunachal  has diverse cultures with many tribes & sub-tribes. With intercultural respect we can preserve this identity.Mutual respect for cultures begins with the acknowledgment of the fact that no culture is more valuable or correct than any other.

My dream for Arunachal is that all the tribes of Arunachal would co-exist peacefully and in harmony. We must understand that United  we stand and divided we fall.

 6. China factor :

            China claims some 90000 sq km of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory. It calls the area Zangnan in Chinese language and makes repeated references to South Tibet, Chinese maps show Arunachal as part of China and makes periodic efforts to underline this unilateral claim to Indian territory undermining India’s territorial integrity (incidents such as deadly clash at Galwan Valley). Such claims and actions are detrimental and harmful for Arunachal as it would bear the brunt if China tries to attack Arunachal directly like the Indo-Chinese war of 1962.

 My dream for Arunachal is to have a border that’s fully equipped to face Chinese aggression sooner or later and for that the people of the State need to understand the danger and threat we face today. What if there is another war, just like Russia-Ukraine war. Who will suffer the most? It’s the local people who are the first line of defence of Arunachal Pradesh who would finally pay the price. Hence government should speed up the process and strengthen the borders and act against such falls claims by china. Local people could also be trained for guarding the border area.

                            Each one of us can leave a mark in this world by making our lives meaningful in thousand ways that not only does good to us but also influences others. Let your every action be a reflection of your beliefs. Could there be a better way to put these than how Mahatma Gandhi said. “Be the Change you wish to see”.

Let’s pledge to make Arunachal Pradesh a better place.

Note :-

The Government is making changes to better the State , however the progress is slow which concerns me. Also we the people have to play our part in it. I love my state no-doubt, it is the epitome of  natural beauty & has huge potential which needs to be tapped.
